PTTR FC...

Paint The Town Red can announce that we now have a football team that will represent the 'product' of PTTR with a view to getting ourselves more known in the local community.

We will play in the Coventry and District Church football league. The club has been reformed from the side that represented Holy Trinity FC last season. We will play on Saturday mornings with a 10:30am kick off. Our home pitch will be the one that is situated opposite the Pingles leisure centre, Avenue Road, Nuneaton.

There will be updates and photos on this site as the season progresses. Our first match is at home on the 6th September. If you are interested in knowing more about the team or have an interest in playing please contact Adam Wright on 07818 082663. There is also a website, covchurchfootball.co.uk, for the league which has a round up of all of the fixtures from the league. We will announce more information over the coming season.

Paint the Town Red Fc .......
Well there it is, the final curtain was drawn on the Paint the Town Red Fc adventure on Saturday morning in the glorious sunshine at the Kings lodge, where it all began.
Pttr were facing Meredith Rd in their last ever game as Meredith looked to clinch the league title with a win and deny Affinity.
A calamity of a start saw Meredith take a 3 -0 early lead , but Pttr were determined not to go out with a whimper and fought back to go in to the break just the one goal down at 3-2 to Meredith. The momentum was now with Pttr and some missed chances were to prove costly even though Meredith were now down to 10 men after a disgraceful and shameful head butt which left a sour taste. The irony of it is it probably affected us more than Meredith as they went on to score 2 more goals and seal their title triumph.
Congratulations Meredith.

Can I take this opportunity of thanking each and everyone of you who has pulled on the PTTR strip and representing the ‘brand’ of PTTR so well. The universal praise from other teams and managers of our attitude and playing the game in the right spirit is one I am most grateful for and very proud of.
You have all helped to promote Paint the town Red. Thank you.

Thank you to Drewy for organising the playing side of things and improving us all as players.

Thanks to Steph and Dave Devall for the sponsorship of the team and their support.

Thank you to Matt ‘Cob’ Kerby for storing all the gear and helping set up the nets every week.

Thanks to Tim Jacques who had the insight and guile to set the team up in its origin.

I take you back to our mission statement further down this page, it is my hope and prayer that we have achieved our goals if not now then some time in the future. It has been a pleasure working with you all and I wish you all the best for the future.

V Cov Saints home
Well after the recent heavy defeats , getting back to basics was the order of the day when Coventry Saints came to the pingles to take PTTR on for the 3rd time this season. Cov Saints would have been confident of victory after knocking PTTR out of the cup in a convincing win last month.
The game couldn’t have started any better for PTTR with Woody breaking the deadlock after less than 10 seconds. Surely a record for PTTR and maybe the league ? A great confidence booster after recent defeats which resulted in PTTR bossing the first 20 minutes or so, chances were missed to increase the lead which gave Saints the chance to get back in to the game and claw some possession back which led to their gaffer Rich Houghton finishing neatly in the bottom corner. This sprung PTTR back in to action and after an usual dry spell from top scorer Darren ‘winner’ Morris he bagged his first goal in a while to put PTTR back in front. And just like busses one comes along and the next one soon follows, a great ball from Matt Kerby sent ‘Winner’ through who finished with the panache that we have come to expect, clearly confidence had been restored. A great save from Wayne before the break ensured the 2 goal advantage was still in tact as the ref blew for half time.
So 3-1 at the break. The next goal was going to be crucial.
PTTR started the second half well but it was soon became the walking wounded as players started going to ground, first off was Danny Devall, followed by Wez, with all subs used other players were forced to stay on and Saints enjoyed good possession without really troubling Wayne in goal.
A good goal by saints made it 3-2 and with players struggling with injury it was now a case of holding on to what we had got, which we did so PTTR get back to winning ways. With the Title now probably out of reach, 5 games remain for PTTR to try and finish as high as possible. Next up is Elim Eagles at home on the 10th April.

V ARYPT 1 at home
Well, i wasnt there so i cant go in to detail but thats probably a good thing as ARYPT current double winners get revenge for thier opening day defeat to PTTR with a convincing 5-0 win.

V Affinity away
Well the least said about this one, the better !!
After trailing affinity 1 nil at the break, things soon got worse when the referee decided to ignore the linesman’s flag and award a goal to Affinity to put them 2 nil to the good. This seemed to affect Pttr’s concentration and more Affinity goals soon followed. With the game slipping away and possibly PTTR’s title aspirations , Drewy vacated his position in goal to try and claw us back in to the game and did produce a bit of magic when chipping the affinity keeper from the edge of the area, but we wont say anymore as his head will only get bigger !! another goal from Drewy though couldn’t stop Affinity ,marching to a well deserved 7-2 victory. The decision to award Affinity’s second goal being the defining moment in the match, although not taking anything away from Affinity who deserved their convincing win and have caused us more problems than any other team this season.
Next up is current double winners ARYPT 1 where a much improved performance is needed to stop a similar result.

V Coventry Saints CUP (a)
After so long without a game due to the weather PTTR resumed playing on Saturday morning as they took the trip to Sowe common to face Coventry Saints in the first round of the cup. After the tight encounter in the league earlier in the season we knew this would be also be a tight affair and so it proved.
Reverting to a 4-4-2 formation PTTR set about dominating possession in the early stages but it was fairly even with chances at a premium. Darren ‘Winner’ Morris having PTTR’s best chance following a slick passing move which the keeper saved well with his legs. This should have encouraged PTTR to get it down and play more, especially as this is when we are at our best but for some reason that slick passing we are used to seeing from PTTR was just not there as the midfield battle intensified. Nil nil at the break with possession shared without really troubling either keeper.
The second half started in similar fashion but when Saints got there chance they took it and opened the scoring with a neat finish from roughly the edge of the area.
With time running out PTTR had to throw caution to the wind trying to find the equaliser to stay in the cup and Saints punished us with 2 more late goals as PTTR pushed forward.
So after 2 consecutive semi final appearances, Pttr exit the cup at the 1st round stage.
The old cliché springs to mind but I won’t ………..
Next up is two consecutive home games where two wins will put us firmly in the title race, anything else and that dream could also disappear !!

12/12/2009

V Binley (h)
Binley were the visitors to the Pingles on Saturday, the last game between the sides saw a 5 all thriller in the cup last season which saw PTTR triumph after a penalty shoot out. There was to be no repeat this time as Binley edged a tight game 2 goals to 1. A sluggish PTTR found it hard to settle in to their stride as Binley edged the early stages and went a goal in front. Adam Bonsall then bundled the ball home to take us in to the break all square.
The second half was a tight affair with some strange refereeing decisions for both teams contributing to a scrappy affair, but fair play to Binley who kept chipping away and went back in front to make it 2-1 to them. With the league very tight PTTR knew that at least a point was needed but were to be denied as Dan Robinson put a header over from close range in the closing stages and in the dying minutes Wez put the ball in the net but was flagged for offside. 2 defeats in 2 home games in a league which is very tight will mean PTTR will need to go on a winning streak to keep in touch at the top of the league if they have any desires to be crowned champions at the end of the season. Next is up is the current double winners ARYPT away on the 9th Jan.
In other news PTTR have been drawn away to Coventry saints in the 1st round of the cup. Tie to be played on the 6th of February.

V Elim Eagles (a)
Saturday’s game saw the two promoted teams face each other as PTTR took the trip to Sowe common to face Elim Eagles.
Injuries and absences meant changes to the starting line up but it didn’t seem to disrupt the team’s momentum as PTTR enjoyed good early ball possession creating a number of chances and numerous corners but to PTTR’s frustration the opening goal would not come, that frustration intensified when on a rare Elim attack, it was Elim who opened scoring as the ball was crossed in and with the swirling conditions the ball somehow found its way in to the top corner. More PTTR dominance followed but it stayed 1-0 to Elim at the interval where keep playing and believing was the main talking point.
After all their dominance in the first half it was ironic that the first attack in the second half brought the equaliser as the clinical Darren ‘Winner’ Morris drove his shot hard and low from the edge of the area to give PTTR their just desserts. It was all one way traffic now and when a good passing move resulted in the Elim keeper palming the ball in to the 6 ward box it was that man Winner who as ever was in the right place at the right time to knock the ball in to give PTTR the lead. Winner had chances to complete his hat trick but it was Adam Bonsall on as a second half sub for Wez Mason who made it 3-1 after a great driving run in to the box and a clinical finish much to his obvious delight.
Further chances were spurned to increase the lead so PTTR had to settle for a 3-1 lead and secure the precious 3 points in what is a very tight league as 2 points separate the top 4 positions with PTTR currently in 2nd spot. 3 points from the next game though against Sporting Club Myton at home on the 5th Dec will secure top spot as Meredith do not play.
24/10/2009

V Coventry Saints (away)
After the disappointment of losing their unbeaten run last time out against Affinity PTTR were in determined mood to get back on track against Coventry saints as they visited Sowe common on Saturday morning.
Changes were made to the starting X1 in the wake of the Affinity defeat and it was PTTR who enjoyed good ball possession in the early stages, credit to Saints who also like to get it down and play which contributed to a good football match but it was PTTR who broke the deadlock when Andy Styring was bundled to the ground as he burst in to the box and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot to enable Darren ‘winner’ Morris to execute from the penalty spot just before half time.
PTTR started the second half well and created some good chances to increase the lead further but had to wait till Andrew Styring finished off a great run by riffling his shot in to the top corner leaving the Saints Keeper no chance, who had earlier made some impressive stops.
Goal of the game though came from Saints who got back in to the game with a thunderbolt volley from the edge of the area that any player would have been proud of as it nestled in the top corner.
This gave Saints impetus and were now in search of the equaliser and enjoyed good possession and only a great double save from Wayne Russell kept them at bay for PTTR to see out the game in the end worthy 2-1 winners.
There is a bit of a break of now till the next fixture which see’s us play the other promoted team from Div 2 last season Elim Eagles and a return to Sowe Common on the 21st November.
10/10/2009

V Affinity home
Paint the Town Red’s amazing run came crashing down on Saturday as Affinity became the 1st team to beat PTTR in a league match since the season 07/08. Affinity were good value for the win as well as PTTR were well below par going down 3 goals to 2.
Affinity took an early lead as PTTR were all at sea and struggled to get a grip of the midfield. With chances at a premium, winner spurned the best chance of the half so far as he placed the ball past the keeper but the wrong side of the post. With the introduction of Dan Robinson PTTR slowly got a foot hold of the game and it was Dan who drew PTTR level before the break although Affinity would have felt hard done by going in all square.
The second half produced more Affinity pressure which duly brought them another goal to go 2-1 in front. More Affinity pressure failed to bring them a goal and when Ryan Greathead drew PTTR level, Affinity must have cursing their missed chances but they weren’t to be denied when they got a 3rd with about 10 minutes to go following some nice build up play. Having said that PTTR could have stole a point as Wez Mason went through in the dying stages only to shoot straight at the keeper.
Well done Affinity who applied them selves well and were a credit to the league in their application.
So PTTR loose their unbeaten run, how they respond will determine if they truly have title credentials this season. Next up is Coventry Saints away where we will have the answers !!
Also thanks to aca sports limited who supplied the great new corner flags and posts that were on display on Saturday, check out http://www.acasports.co.uk/football_specialist.php for more stuff from aca sports.

Meredith Road away
It was our first visit to Caludon Castle school on Saturday to face the in form Meredith Road who we expected to give us a stern test of our title credentials, having won all 3 of their first matches. Something had to give !!
A minute’s silence proceeded the kick off in memory of school girl Natalie Morton. Our thoughts and prayers are with Natalie and her family.
PTTR had the better of the possession early on with the midfield battling hard.
Excellent work by Ben Foster at the back post to knock the ball to the near post to Wez Mason resulted in PTTR taking the lead when Wez nodded in from close range, a second soon followed when Ash Alexander playing in his new role up front displayed some great skill by turning his marker and getting a lovely strike in to the bottom corner away to put PTTR 2 nil to the good. Chances came and went to make it 3-0 so PTTR had to settle for a 2-0 half time lead. Having played with the wind in the 1st half the wind seemed to get stronger and stronger in the second half this with some good Meredith play also meant PTTR were cramped inside their half but some good PTTR defending kept them at bay, the one time PTTR did get in to their half saw the Meredith keeper Sully pull off a great save to deny Ash his second of the game.
Some dodgy keeping by Drewy then allowed Meredith back in to the game which gave them impetus and an equaliser soon came from a great finish by Meredith leading scorer Matty King. The onslaught on the PTTR goal was now in full swing and only some dogged defending in harrowing conditions due to the wind kept Meredith at bay to preserve PTTR’s unbeaten run as it finished 2-2.
Next up is Affinity at home this coming Saturday 10th October.

26/09/2009

v Lowfors Away
With confidence high having dispatched the double winners PTTR faced Lowfors for the 1st time at Whitley common.
It soon became apparent that chances would have to be taken as the game unfolded as it was a tight affair which could go either way. Winner a took a shot on the turn early on which was well executed but their keeper was equal to it. Wayne was kept busy at the other end too.
Just before half time though Winner got a shot away which rattled the bar but Woody was on hand to volley the rebound in to the net to put PTTR 1-0 up just before the break.
Chances came and went for both sides, some clear cut ones for PTTR left us wondering if they were going to be punished with a Lowfors equaliser but Winner put us at ease when he finished superbly to put PTTR 2-0 to the good and confident of another victory. Some late Lowfors pressure resulted in some goal line scrambles but PTTR dealt with them to see the game out 2-0.
So a maximum return from PTTR’s opening 2 games is an excellent start to their debut season in division 1. Up next on the 3rd October is a trip to Meredith Rd who have won their opening 3 games so a difficult game awaits.

A new Season !!!!!!!! ARYPT 1 Home
Well, we couldn’t have had a harder start with current double winners ARYPT 1 the visitors to the Pingles for our first game in the top flight following our title success last season.
Having gifted ARYPT a 3-0 lead the last time we played them in the cup PTTR were desperate to keep it tight early on and not give anything away.
That’s exactly how it unfolded and if Darren ‘winner’ Morris was his usual clinical self PTTR would have an even better start. The miss was not to costly as mid way through the first half Wez Mason broke free and slotted home to put PTTR 1-0 to the good. Winner was soon back to his clinical self as he finished expertly to put PTTR 2-0. ARYPT looked shell shocked and PTTR smelt a giant killing was on the cards. So PTTR went in to the break 2-0 to the good. The gaffer Drewy reminded us the job was not done in his team talk and not to let them back in to the game.
Plenty of ARYPT pressure in the 2nd half was met with stern defending from PTTR who as the gaffer requested kept it tight. With ARYPT becoming frustrated PTTR’s constant work rate paid dividends as lost causes were chased which resulted in the ball falling to winner who did what he does best and slotted coolie home to put the game beyond doubt.
So what a start for PTTR in the top division a 3-0 win against the double winners, next up is Lowfors away on the 26th Sept.

V Queens Road Baptist Church home
And so it ends, the season finally came to its conclusion on Saturday in the blistering sunshine at the Kings lodge. Queens rd Baptist church were the opponents who were trying to deny PTTR the great feat of going the whole league campaign unbeaten. The gaffer made a couple of changes with the title in the bag and brought in Lee Mcalpin and Adam Timms to start.
In the first half some great football produced goals for Wez Mason and Ben Wright to ensure PTTR had a comfortable 2-0 lead going in to half time.
In the second half Tim Jacques replaced Lee Mcalpin and further goals from Darren Morris and another from Ben Wright saw PTTR ease to a 4-0 win with a great team performance from top to bottom, which ensured an unbeaten league season. A great feat indeed.
The annual 6 a side tournament now awaits on the 27th June where the team will get their trophy and their medals.
23/05/2009

V New Horizons away
Knowing that a win would clinch the division 2 title Paint the Town Red Fc were in confident mood going in to Saturday’s clash with New Horizons.
PTTR dominated the early possession and carved out some great opportunities but had to wait patiently till Matthew Wood broke the deadlock, 1 quickly became 2 and then 3 with a goal from leading scorer Darren ‘winner’ Morris and another one from Matthew wood. More chances came but PTTR had to settle for a 3-0 half time lead.
The second half brought similar dominance and a free kick swung in by Adam Bonsall evaded everyone and nestled in the top corner to make it 4-0. A great strike by Danny Devall made it 5, Winner made his bid for the golden boot to make it 6 and to finish it off Adam Bonsall scored another screamer to complete the scoring at 7-0. So a resounding win to clinch the title for the PTTR guys who now have one more game to go the whole season unbeaten in the league. That game is this Saturday the 30th May against Queens road Baptist church to be played at the Kings Lodge. Come a long and cheer on the lads as they attempt to become the invincibles!!!
12/05/2009

V St Johns Westwood
Unfortunately this fixture didn’t happen due to St John’s getting confused with the date of the fixture. With the season coming to a close regrettably the fixture will not be able to be reorganised so PTTR have been awarded a 3-0 win which clinches promotion to division 1 !! It would of been nice to do it in better circumstances but nonetheless a great achievement. Well done lads !!
1 win form the remaining 2 games will now see PTTR crowned champions of division 2. The first opportunity for this will be away to New Horizons on the 23rd May and then a home game with Queens road Baptist church on the 30th (To be played at the Kings lodge).
09/05/2009

V Elim Eagles
You could certainly tell it was a big game on Saturday as both teams were fully committed to getting the 3 points that would make the winners favourites for the title.
With Paint the Town Red in determined mood, they set out to dominate the early possession. Andy Styring playing in a unfamiliar role in the middle of the park due to injuries and absences took the game by the scruff of the neck and battled for every ball and it was his persistence that broke the deadlock with an early goal for PTTR as he won the ball rode a few challenges and unleashed a great shot which beat the Elim keeper all ends up!
With skipper for the day Gavin Starkey leading from the front PTTR were in no mood to let the advantage go and PTTR went on to score another 3 goals in the first half thanks to a fantastic hatrick from Matthew Wood who finished his chances superbly. 4-0 to PTTR at the break then!
The second half seen ‘woody’ and ‘winner’ link up again with great efficiency as Winner made it 5-0 with a close range finish. An injury to Ryan then occurred who had to be carried off to add to PTTR injury woes. A good finish from Elim seen them pull a goal back but PTTR saw the game out professionally and 5-1 it finished.
A draw now against Westwood on Tuesday at home will secure promotion and a win will see PTTR top the league. Two wins from the remaining 3 games will also ensure a title win!
02/05/2009

V Hinckley DARE away
Our shortest away trip of the season saw PTTR cross all of 20 yards to pitch 1 at the Pingles as the sun was warming nicely on Saturday morning to face Hinckley DARE.
PTTR dominated early possession and carved out some great opportunities with some lovely play, sadly the finishing didn’t match the build up play and those misses could of seen PTTR even go in to the break a goal down, if it wasn’t for a fine save from Drewy playing in goal due to Ash’s injury as he flung him self to his right to divert what looked like a certain goal. So 0-0 it was at the interval. The half time message was to remain cool and the goal will come and that’s exactly what materialised as PTTR’s dominance eventually paid dividends as Matt Abercrombie broke the deadlock to give PTTR the lead.
One goal soon became two as ‘Winner’ added to his tally for the season and ‘Woody’ made it 3-0.
Lee Mcalpin then bagged his first of the season with a neat finish and with a goal from Ben Wright PTTR had roared in to 5-0 lead. DARE then scored a consolation goal only for ‘winner’ to make it 6-1 to maintain the 5 goal lead. So 6-1 it finished which sets PTTR up nicely for a massive game next week (9th May) against Elim Eagles at Shilton lane where the winners will fancy themselves to go on and win the league.
Its squeaky bum time now as 4 wins from the remaining 4 fixtures will see PTTR crowned division 2 champions anything else could see us missing out. Remaining games:
9th May – Elim Eagles away
12th May – Weswood home
23rd – New Horizons away
30th May – QRBC home
18/04/2009

V Queens Road Baptist Church away
Another tight affair on Saturday as Paint the Town Red Fc extended their unbeaten league run but had to settle for a point against Queens Rd Baptist Church. All the goals came in the first half as QRBC took an early 2-0 lead as they dominated the early possession. Slowly but surely though PTTR gained more and more possession and got back in to the game through a goal by Matt Abercrombie who finished neatly from a tight angle after a pin point thrown in from Adam Wright. Then form a long punt up field from keeper Ash Darren ‘winner’ Morris got something on it to loop the ball over QRBC’s keeper from some way out. Whether he meant it only Winner will know.
The first half also saw Paul Fitzpatrick leave the filed with what looked like a nasty injury as he went over on his ankle which could see Fitzy out for the remainder of the season. Best wishes to Fitzy!
The second half was a tight affair with not many clear cut chances and it finished honours even at 2-2 which was a fair result as either side would have felt aggrieved had they lost he match.
Let’s just hope these dropped points aren’t costly as PTTR look to hunt down the div 2 title as we enter the business end of the season.
Next up is an away game with Hinckley DARE on the 2nd May.
04/04/2009

V Hinckley Baptist 2
It was certainly a feisty affair at the Pingles on Saturday Morning as Paint the Town Red FC kept their heads to run out 4-0 winners.
The opening goal was created by a great through ball by Fitzy to Andy Styring who finished with aplomb. Shortly afterwards a great turn and shot by Matt Abercrombie made it 2-0 and PTTR looked on course for another comfortable victory. The half was then tarnished by a horror tackle by a Hinckley player who amazingly only received a caution. Andy Styring had another chance to increase PTTR’s lead but a great save from Hinckley’s keeper meant PTTR had to settle for a 2-0 lead going in to the interval.
Early in the second half PTTR were defending a corner but quickly broke out and within 3 passes involving Wez Mason and Danny Devall the ball was in the Hinckley net neatly finished again by Andy Styring. A great team goal indeed.
Andy Styring then went on to complete his hat trick and I would love to tell you all about it but after being substituted, I was having a quick Shower and missed it!!
What followed was an unsavoury collection of events which seen a Hinckley player shown a red card and Rich Bedford having to leave the field with a nasty injury.
After the final whistle more dissent from Hinckley meant another Caution going to a Hinckley player.
So another good victory for PTTR and remain unbeaten in the league. There is a little break now for Easter and then we resume on the 18th of April with a trip to Queens Road Baptist Church as we enter the business the end of the season.
28/03/2009

V Mosaic away
With a depleted squad, Paint the Town Red FC made the trip to Coundon Park to take on Mosaic.
For the second successive game and for only the 3rd game this season Paint the Town Red scored the first goal through Matt Abercrombie. It came from a great move originating from great play from Adam Wright to break up a Mosaic attack and send Adam Bonsall flying down the wing to produce a great centre for ‘Abbers’ to finish neatly.
PTTR then had a goal bizarrely chalked off for off side after the ref had given the ‘goal’, Ben Wright will feel hard done by not to have added to his tally for the season. So at the interval PTTR went in a goal ahead.
The second half had seen Andy Styring make it 2-0 to PTTR. Mosaic then enjoyed their best spell of pressure in the game which resulted in them earning a penalty after a needless foul by Gavla Starkey but the gaffer Drewy playing in goal in Ash’s absence came to the rescue with a fine save!
The game will also be remembered for a bizarre incident which saw Lee Mcalpin on as a second half substitute suffer a massive nose bleed following what seemed to be an innocuous looking challenge. Fortunately Lee was Ok and was able to resume after some treatment on the side lines.
A penalty neatly dispatched from Fitzy completed the scoring.
Final score 3-0 to PTTR.
So PTTR extend their unbeaten league run further, which will be severely tested again next Saturday (4th April) which sees near neighbours Hinckley Baptist 2 make the trip to the Pingles.
21/03/2009

V ARYPT St Thomas More 2
Paint The Town Red FC bounced back in style from the disappointment of last week’s cup semi final defeat by convincingly seeing off ARYPT St Thomas Moore 2 7-1.
Unusually for PTTR the first goal went their way, albeit through a bizarre own goal. Persistent pressure and good finishing through Danny Devall and Ben Foster seen PTTR go in to the break with a 3-0 advantage. ARYPT then scored to reduce their arrears but all it seemed to do was galvanise PTTR in to action, a great solo goal from Wez Mason, a Ronaldo type free kick form Gavin Starkey, plus goals from Daz Morris and Rich Bedford saw PTTR run out comfortable winners.
Next up for PTTR is a trip to Mosaic this coming Saturday on the 28th March.
14/03/2009

Cup semi final
Paint The Town Red lost their unbeaten run to highflying division one leaders ARYPT St Thomas More 1 in the Semi Final of the cup after going down 5-3.
PTTR appeared to be all at sea in the opening stages as a mixture of poor play and costly mistakes plus some great finishing from ARYPT seen ARYPT take an early 4-0 lead. The swirling wind was certainly not helping PTTR, however PTTR managed to get a foot hold in the game gaining more possession and scored a goal through Andy Styring to go in to the break 4-1 down. With the wind in PTTR’s favour in the second half and an inspiring half time team talk from Drewy the gaffer, PTTR were aiming for another amazing come back. The 2nd half was much improved with PTTR dominating possession but a well organised ARYPT defence kept them at bay until Ben Wright made it 4-2 to keep the dream alive. PTTR now had all of the momentum but a break away goal from ARYPT made it 5-2 to ease their nerves. A goal from Wez Mason briefly put the come back, Back on but sadly for PTTR it was not to be this time and suffered their first defeat of the season.

Good luck to ARYPT for the cup final.

PTTR will be looking to bounce back against ARYPT’s 2nd team next Saturday (21st)as they return to league action . A win will see PTTR top the league.

¼ final cup match V’s Hinckley away
You certainly can’t call PTTR matches boring this season. Another exciting encounter took place on Saturday against division 1 opponents Hinckley Baptist 1. PTTR never a team for doing things the easy way again conceded the first goal after some sloppy play and 1 quickly became 2 as Hinckley scored an amazing goal as their player took a free kick within in his own half and seen it fly above everybody and just out of Keeper Ash’s grasp to take a 2-0 lead. Hinckley were playing well and were deservedly leading. With PTTR’s history this season at 2-0 PTTR were still confident of a comeback at half time but shortly after the break 2 became 3 and even the most optimistic PTTR supporter (do we have supporters ?!) must have thought our cup run was coming to an end.
An own goal however got PTTR back in to the game, and when Darren ‘winner’ Morris dispatched a penalty to make it 3-2 the comeback was on. It was now all one way traffic with PTTR searching for the equalizer which duly came from Danny Devall who chose a great time to open his account with a screamer from the edge of the area to draw PTTR level. Then another screamer from Ben Foster amazingly saw PTTR take the lead. Hinckley were now shell-shocked and a goal from Ben Wright put the gloss on another amazing come back to make it 5-3 to PTTR.

The semi final will see PTTR take on ARYPT’s 1st team at home on the 14th March who are top of div 1 and also unbeaten so it will be a stern test.

So for anyone looking for exciting grass roots football get down to the Pingles on Saturday as PTTR take on Elim Eagles in the league ahead of the semi final fixture the week after.

ARYPT St Thomas More - away
After a long time without a game due to the weather, PTTR finally got a game on as they took the trip to ARYPT 2. PTTR did their usual thing by conceding first this time within the first 2 minutes !! It didn’t take long though for them to get back on track thanks to 2 goals from Wez Mason and Darren ‘winner’ Morris which keeps his scoring streak going. Some of the play was reminiscence of the game against DARE with some attractive play being played. Half time score was 3-1.
After the break Rich Bedford finished of a great move to make it 4-1 and a dubious looking penalty tucked away by Paul ‘Fitzy’ Fitzpatrick made it 5-1 with PTTR going great guns. With the game in the bag it looked as though PTTR took their foot of the gas and some sloppy play allowed ARYPT to make it 5-2 which is how it finished.
PTTR will have to show better concentration if they are going to progress further in the cup against Hinckley Baptist 1 which is next up away on the 28th Feb.
The games now come thick and fast with the amount of postponements caused by the weather as PTTR try and continue their unbeaten run.

V Hinckley DARE home
After a run of frustrating postponed fixtures, PTTR finally got back to playing football against near neighbours Hinckley DARE. The lack of action could have been used an excuse for PTTR’s poor start to the match as they found themselves 2-0 down mid way through the first half although to be fair DARE have had many postponed games also so it would be a poor excuse !! PTTR slowly made their mark on the game and began to get a foothold and pulled a goal back shortly before half time with a great move finished off by Adam ‘Bonny’ Bonsall. In the second half it looked as though it could be a frustrating afternoon for PTTR as chances come and went but Darren ‘winner’ Morris celebrated his first match since the birth of his daughter by grabbing the equaliser to continue his amazing scoring streak. PTTR were now in full flight searching for the winning goal and it very nearly came with Ben Foster heading millimetres wide in injury time. So 2-2 it finished with PTTR still unbeaten and again showing their resilience by fighting back again!! Next up (weather permitting!) is the cup quarter final against Hinckley Baptist away on Saturday 24th January.

V Hinckley Baptist away
Paint The Town Red put there unbeaten record on the line as they took the short trip to Hinckley United to take on Hinckley Baptist 2. When PTTR took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Darren Morris and Ben Foster PTTR could have been confident of extending their unbeaten run and maybe were too confident as Hinckley scored a great goal to go in to the interval 2-1 down. Any onlookers could have mistaken the PTTR goalkeeper for Gomez as Drewy donned the gloves in Ash’s absence and spent more time out the box than in it whilst punching everything!! Hinckley started the 2nd half well and drew level at 2-2. Ben Wright then took his chance well to give PTTR their lead back but fair play to Hinckley as they fought well and drew level again to make it 3-3 with another great strike that flew past ‘Gomez’. But again PTTR’s character and determination was evident as Gavin Starkey’s great delivery from a set piece to the back post was met by Ben Foster who buried it in the corner to make it 4-3 to PTTR and gave them the win despite late Hinckley pressure.
Next up for PTTR is Queens Road Baptist Church this Saturday (13th Dec) at home.
In other news the cup quarter final draw has been made and see’s us again make the short trip to Hinckley but this time to play their first team. The tie is to be played on the 24th January.

V Mosaic
After the postponement of our game against Elim Eagles for a water logged pitch, Paint The Town Red went goal crazy after dispatching Mosaic 6-0. A blistering start from PTTR saw them take an early 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Ben Foster and Matty Abercrombie who bagged 2. Another goal from Darren ‘winner’ Morris saw PTTR go in at half time with a 4-0 lead. In the second half winner went on to complete his 2nd hatrick in two games. An impressive substitute display from Lee Mcalpin could have seen PTTR extend their lead further but it finished 6-0.
So PTTR extend their impressive unbeaten start to the season which next takes them to Hinckley Baptist 2 on December the 6th.

V Binley Away
Our first cup game of the season took us to Binley to face the division 1 team. We expected a tough game and that was exactly what we got, however I don’t think anyone quite expected what was to unfold. PTTR started the game brightly but all of a sudden found ourselves 2-0 down, a goal from Darren ‘winner’ Morris though took us in to interval 2-1 down. Binley then took a 3-1 lead and it seemed a long way back for the PTTR boys. However with character and determination PTTR managed to bag themselves 2 goals as Darren ‘winner’ Morris grabbed his hat-trick to send the game in to extra time. Binley though started extra time the stronger and took a 5-3 lead, then with a man sent off for PTTR and only 7 minutes of extra time remaining Binley must have been confident of seeing the game out and progressing to the next round – WRONG !! The character of the PTTR side can surely not be questioned as again we battled back with Darren ‘winner’ Morris amazingly bagging his 4th of the match and Andrew Styring with the clock ticking down producing a marvellous header to tie the match up at 5-5 ! The dreaded penalty shoot out was awaited.
As if we hadn’t had enough drama already PTTR took an early 2-0 lead in the shoot out thanks to Darren ‘winner’ Morris and Matty Abercrombie only for PTTR to miss the next 2 but goalkeeper Ash smashed home the winning penalty to the joy of the PTTR players. Great game and credit to Binley in what was an awesome game to be involved in.
Draw for the quarter finals – 8th Dec
Next Match – Elim Eagles Away 15th November

V St John's Westwood away
An unconvincing first half saw PTTR go in 2-0 down at half time but fair play to Westwood as they fought and battled hard and deserved there half time lead. The gaffer Ian ‘Drewy’ Drewitt’s half time team talk must have had an impact as PTTR came out fighting and took a 3-2 lead thanks to goals from Ben Foster, Darren ‘winner’ Morris and Andrew Styring. Both teams had chances to increase the score further and unfortunately for PTTR it was Westwood who managed to take one and level it up at 3-3. Both teams could of won it but it finished 3-3.

Season underway !
Paint The Town Red finally got thier league season off to a start against New horizons after bad weather had put pay to their scheduled first match in September. PTTR twice came from behind to win the game 3-2 thanks to goals from Rich Bedford, Wez Mason and an own goal. 3 points in the bag from the first match is a great start.
